Catalogue coverage & missing data

Current and discontinued models are included where published data is available. This is not a complete inventory of every UK tool. Hilti’s current UK power-tool pages and Makita’s UK-hosted historical vibration table provide the bulk of the catalogue; STIHL and Bosch UK product-page records also cover a selection of equipment. Bosch’s 2019 Noise & HAV workbook supplies additional historical records; single-axis figures require an assessed triaxial value. DeWalt’s current linked product pages supply model names, but most omit vibration specifications; only selected manual-backed values are included. HiKOKI UK product pages provide additional article-specific values, with separate applications where published. Milwaukee and Metabo UK pages add article-specific working modes. Husqvarna records retain the highest published handle and configuration figure. Wacker Neuson uses only explicitly labelled hand–arm vibration magnitudes; whole-body and vibration-frequency figures are excluded. Unavailable uncertainty still requires an assessed value. Other manufacturers currently have selected entries. A model’s UK sales history and discontinued status are not always documented.

“Declared data” means a numeric manufacturer declaration is included; it is not a workplace measurement. Some rows still require an assessed value because uncertainty or a suitable starting value is missing. Compound values and ambiguous source rows require manual assessment. Tool attachments, handles, test modes and model generations can change the result.

Calculation method & guidance

For each tool: points = 2 × vibration magnitude² × trigger time in hours. Add the tool points for the daily total. A(8) = √(total points ÷ 16).

The exposure action value is 100 points (2.5 m/s² A(8)); the daily exposure limit is 400 points (5 m/s² A(8)). Handarm’s starting-estimate rule is the higher of the HSE generic tool value and manufacturer declaration plus K (when supplied). This is our conservative starting rule, not an HSE model-specific recommendation or a guaranteed upper bound. K is test uncertainty, not a workplace correction factor. Older model generations remain listed with their source revision; this is not a live or exhaustive catalogue. When two handles differ, the higher declared value is used. Displayed points are truncated to one decimal; thresholds use the full calculation. This calculator supports an employer’s risk assessment; it does not diagnose HAVS or establish that exposure is safe.
